Textile Glossary

Fabric Glossary & Textile Terms

New to textile sourcing? Our glossary breaks down the essential industry terms every B2B buyer should know — from fabric types to certifications and quality standards.

GSM

Fabric

Grams per Square Meter — the standard unit for measuring fabric weight. Higher GSM means heavier, thicker fabric; lower GSM indicates lighter, more breathable material.

MOQ

Business

Minimum Order Quantity — the smallest number of units a supplier will produce per order. Understanding MOQ helps you plan production runs and manage inventory costs.

Lead Time

Business

The total time from placing an order to receiving the finished goods. Includes sourcing, production, quality checks, and shipping.

Single Jersey

Fabric

A lightweight knit fabric with a smooth face and textured back. Commonly used for t-shirts, it offers good stretch and breathability with a soft hand feel.

Pique Knit

Fabric

A textured knit fabric with a raised, waffle-like pattern. The classic choice for polo shirts, it is durable, breathable, and holds its shape well after washing.

Interlock

Fabric

A double-knit fabric with two sets of needles, producing a smooth surface on both sides. Thicker and more stable than single jersey, ideal for premium polos and kidswear.

Twill Weave

Fabric

A woven fabric characterized by diagonal parallel ribs. Known for excellent durability and wrinkle resistance, commonly used in trousers, shirts, and workwear.

Fleece

Fabric

A brushed knit fabric with a soft, napped surface on one or both sides. Provides warmth and comfort, making it the go-to choice for hoodies and sweatshirts.

OEKO-TEX

Certification

An independent certification system that tests textiles for harmful substances. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 ensures the fabric is free from chemicals harmful to human health.

GOTS

Certification

Global Organic Textile Standard — the world's leading standard for organic fibers. Covers ecological and social criteria across the entire textile supply chain, from harvest to labeling.

SEDEX

Certification

A widely used platform for managing and sharing ethical supply chain data. SEDEX membership demonstrates a supplier's commitment to responsible business practices and labor standards.

BSCI

Certification

Business Social Compliance Initiative — a leading supply chain management system that improves working conditions through audits and capacity building across global supply chains.

Yarn Count

Quality

A numerical measure of yarn thickness or fineness. Higher counts indicate finer yarns and lighter fabrics, while lower counts produce heavier, coarser textiles.

Colorfastness

Quality

The resistance of a fabric's color to fading or bleeding when exposed to washing, light, rubbing, or perspiration. Rated on a scale of 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent).

Pre-shrunk

Quality

Fabric that has been treated during manufacturing to minimize further shrinkage after washing. Ensures garments maintain their intended size and fit throughout their lifecycle.

CAD

Business

Computer-Aided Design — software used to create digital patterns, prints, and technical specifications for textile production. Enables precise design communication between buyers and manufacturers.

From the Founder

Why We Started FibraNest

“Having worked in India's textile industry, I saw firsthand how difficult it was for international brands to find reliable manufacturing partners. Too many companies faced quality issues, communication gaps, and unpredictable timelines. I founded FibraNest to change that — to build a sourcing experience that's transparent, personal, and genuinely reliable. When you work with us, you work with me directly.”

Our Promise

What You Can Expect from Us

We may be new, but our commitment to your success is unwavering. Here's what we promise every partner.

1

Uncompromising Quality

Every product goes through rigorous quality checks before it leaves the factory. We inspect at multiple stages — fabric, cutting, stitching, and finishing — so you receive only what meets your standards.

2

Transparent Timelines

No hidden delays, no vague updates. We provide clear timelines from day one and keep you informed at every milestone. If anything changes, you'll hear it from us first.

3

Honest Communication

We believe trust is built on honesty. If a fabric won't work for your design, we'll tell you upfront. If a timeline is tight, we'll set realistic expectations. No sugar-coating, ever.

4

Trust & Transparency

Built on Trust, Not Testimonials

We don't have years of reviews yet — and we think honesty is more powerful than fabricated social proof. Here's our commitment to earning your confidence.

Our Commitment to Honesty

We won't pretend to have years of case studies or hundreds of completed projects — we're honest about where we are. What we promise instead is complete transparency in pricing, timelines, and capabilities. No overpromising, no hidden costs, no surprises. When we say we can do something, we mean it. When we can't, we'll tell you upfront and help you find an alternative.

Direct Founder Access

When you work with FibraNest, you work directly with Maheshbabu and Sri Vishnu — not an account manager, not a junior associate. Every inquiry, every concern, every milestone goes through the founders personally. You'll always know exactly who's handling your project, and you can reach us anytime.

Risk-Free First Order

We understand that trusting a new partner takes courage. That's why we offer sample orders before you commit, virtual or in-person factory visits so you can see our operations firsthand, and flexible terms for first-time buyers. We want you to feel confident before placing a full order — no pressure, just partnership.

Growth Together

As a growing company, every single client matters immensely to us. You're not just another account in a vast portfolio — you're a partnership we're invested in. We bring the hustle, the attention, and the personal dedication that larger agencies simply can't match. Your growth drives our growth, and we never forget that.
